What is Matariki?
Matariki refers to a tiny constellation of stars - Mata Riki means Tiny Eyes and Mata Ariki means Eyes of God.
Today we had lots of fun designing and making matariki kites. First we spent 10 minutes planning our kites, thinking about what our kites would look like and be made from.
Then the fun began! We collected natural material from around the school, used items we had gathered at home and anything we could get our hands on.
Here are some words of wisdom from some of us:
"This is fun, making kites." Luke
"So far our kite is looking similar to a traditional kite." Alex, Harry, Johnny
"It's really fun because it helps us with teamwork. We all had different jobs to do." Erin, Katy, Stella, Ella
" It's fun making kites, but when you get to the end it's frustrating if you haven't done everything you need to do." Daisy, Liam, Celia, Emily
