Anzac Dawn Parade

ANZAC Day

How did you spend ANZAC Day? We had some very interesting discussions about the Dawn Parade.
I was so impressed to see so many students down there at 5am. Quite a few students walked past and said hi, looking very tired ! What a very moving ceremony. What did you see? What did you hear? We have written some great haiku poems about our ANZAC's - watch this space!

Cooper:

ANZAC Limerick

There was sad soldier
Who had injured his shoulder
He fought at night
And hid at daylight
Then he got stuck under a boulder.

He had finished Safely
As he left Gallipoli
He had a bullet in his arm
Which is how he was harmed
But afterwards he was happy

He got back and returned to his family
After the dreadful war in Gallipoli
His arm was better
His clothes are wetter
And he survived amazingly!

Arabella
In writing we have been learning about limericks. This is my extended limerick about a sloth.

Sloth:
There once was a very old sloth,
Who only ate chicken broth
One day he discovered a crunch,
In his should be very smooth lunch
And got himself up in a wroth.

He screamed and he kicked,
He swore he’d been tricked,
So decided to try some bamboo,
But thought that it tasted like poo,
And that all the yumminess had been nicked.

He decided he would,
Though not sure if he should,
Look for a food he would like,
And decided to try a pike -
let, but decided that it was not good
But nobody else understood

They all thought pike-lets were yum,
But the sloth thought they tasted like bums
So he asked some one else to be nice,
And they kindly gave hime some rice,
And the sloth didn’t leave not one crumb

He loved them so much,
He shuddered at the touch,
Of anyone else and his rice
But then he saw a brownie slice,
And he thought he’d love it so much

He snatched it right under Panda’s eyes
And Panda, he cried.
Panda got mad,
Then Panda packed a sad,
And Sloth got quite surprised .

He gave the slice back,
And panda gave him a snack,
Of some scrumptious soya sauce.
Sloth felt boss,
and made a big stack,

Much to Pandas surprise
Of his pile of now better rice
You see, he dipped them in the sauce,
Because it didn’t taste like moss,
And thought that it was like a prize.

Anzac Day

On Friday at Torbay School, we remembered our ANZAC's. A range of students spoke in front of the school. We listened to the Last Post, while the flag was raised to half mast. Our wreath was placed under the flag pole. The teachers were incredibly impressed with the respect and understanding our students demonstrated through the 2 minute silence. Well done Torbay.

Jamie and Sam place our wreath under the flag pole. They are representing our school at the 8:30am parade.

Room 1 and 2 making and EATING Anzac biscuits!

We are pretending that we are living in trenches. For writing we are writing letters to our family. We have also made Anzac biscuits and laid poppies for our fallen soldiers.

Nearly ready!

Everyone disappears when we need to do this part! Well done Kyla and Liam - super cleaners!

SO many Anzac biscuits - parents, toddlers, siblings even got to test a few!
